General Testing Guidelines
Eligibility
General Grading Tests follow a three month schedule, at approximately 4 tests per year. A make-up test will typically be held one month after the General Grading Test for qualifying students.
Note:
The listed rank requirements display what is required of the student to test for that rank. Example: Clicking 8th Gup will display the 9th Gup to 8th Gup Requirements.
Testing Board
Each testing board will consist of one Chief Instructor, several Senior Instructors, and two Black Belts. The Chief and Senior Instructors will be seated at a head table to evaluate the testing students. One Black Belt will serve as a proctor, while the other oversees the seated students during the course of the test.
Testing Order
Grading tests will always follow a junior member to the senior member order. White belts will be tested before orange belts, etc. When the students are seated and waiting for their turn to test, proper discipline should be maintained.
Grading
Passing scores are 7.0 and above, students who receive two failing grades are required to retest under their instructor. Students with three or more failing grades must retest at the next scheduled testing.
Note:
The Traditional Tang Soo Do International Grading Sheet is available here.
Promotions
After the test has been completed, scores are calculated and determined. After reviewing the results, students will be notified on improvement areas. Promotions are awarded two to three weeks after the testing date. Proper discipline suggests that students should not inquire about promotion dates.
