The Traditional
Tang Soo Do International is a Korean Karate Organization that
practices and teaches the Art of Tang Soo Do. It is not a
sports organization or an organization
set up for the financial benefit of a select few. It is especially
not a cult, based on the infallibility of the founder of
the Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan style of Korean Karate, Grandmaster
Hwang, Kee.
Based on extensive research,
we do not believe that the Art of Tang Soo Do is in any way technically
related to the ancient Korean Martial Art of Soo Bahk Do. We have also
researched that the Moo Yei Do Bo Tong Ji is in no way technically
related to the art of Tang Soo Do, either technically or philosophically.
We make this statement to separate ourselves from organizations that
espouse this theory. Our founding senior Ko Dan Ja of the Traditional
Tang Soo Do International trace their technical lineage to the founder
of the Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan style, Grandmaster Hwang, Kee and other
very senior Korean instructors who were direct students of Grandmaster
Hwang, Kee. All our senior Ko Dan Ja received their training and certification
to the Ko Dan Ja level from the highest authorities and technicians
of Tang Soo Do in the world and are accomplished Martial Artists in
their own right. It should be understood that the Traditional Tang
Soo Do International is in no way associated, affiliated, or a part
of the United States Soo Bahk Do Federation or the organization formally
known as the United States Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation, Incorporated.
While we can embrace certain aspects of Grandmaster Hwang Kee's philosophy
we totally reject the Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan's business philosophy
as practiced in the United States and abroad. We see ourselves as "a
Moo Duk Kwan" not "the Moo Duk Kwan".
The
Chinese calligraphy for Tang Soo Do translates roughly into China Hand
Way. The
Art of Tang Soo Do is an authentic Martial Art with a rich history
and wealth of technical information. Although Tang Soo Do has a tremendous
combat potential, the purpose for training in Tang Soo Do is the
development and improvement of the human being, both physically and
mentally. Training in Tang Soo Do in the traditional manner fosters
respect for others and those martial character traits deemed important
for developing a superior person in mind and body. Traditional Tang
Soo Do International strives to develop these traits by adhering
to the "old ways" and
teaching methodologies that have proven themselves over time and
appreciates the virtues of rigorous physical mental training.
